The Bryte and Broderick Community Center is a vital community resource located in West Sacramento, California. The center provides a wide range of services and programs aimed at promoting the health, well-being, and empowerment of local residents. These include youth programs, senior services, educational opportunities, health and wellness initiatives, and much more. The center also serves as a hub for community events and gatherings, providing a welcoming and inclusive space for residents to come together and connect. Shayndl “Leah” Murphy was exposed to and participated in various native events and ceremonies from a very young age mostly related to DQ University, UC Davis and Buena Vista Rancheria. These experiences helped to spark her interest in becoming an event coordinator, and later started her own successful business Lady Leah Events in 2019. That year she was also invited to coordinate the BVR events as an independent contractor. Events include Memorial Day, Fall Dance, Elders’ Dinner, and the Children’s Christmas party. In 2023 Leah became Bryte & Broderick’s Facility Manager and the BVR tribes’ Event Coordinator as a permanent position. Leah is the oldest sister of the younger tribal members.
